Just BE: Why Rediscovering Yourself is the Ultimate Act of Self-Love

For years, I believed I was living the life I was meant to live. I ticked all the boxes—marriage, children, career—doing everything society told me I should. But there came a point when I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the woman staring back. I was lost, disconnected from who I truly was. Rediscovering myself wasn’t easy. It took courage, tears, and a willingness to let go of everything that wasn’t truly me. But it was the most powerful, life-changing decision I’ve ever made.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re living someone else’s dream or that your life doesn’t feel like your own, this blog is for you. Let’s talk about why rediscovering yourself is the ultimate act of self-love.

Why We Lose Ourselves
We live in a world that loves to tell us who to be. As women, we’re often conditioned to serve, to put others first, and to mold ourselves into roles that society values. Wife, mother, caregiver, worker—the list goes on. These roles aren’t inherently bad, but when they overshadow who we are at our core, we lose touch with ourselves. I know, because I’ve been there.

For me, it was a journey of unlearning. I had to shed the beliefs and expectations that didn’t serve me. It wasn’t about rejecting the roles I valued, like being a mother or a mentor. It was about redefining those roles on my terms.

The Power of Rediscovery
Rediscovering yourself is like peeling back the layers of an onion. At first, it’s overwhelming. There’s a fear of what you might find beneath it all. But as you uncover your authentic self, you also rediscover your passions, your values, and your voice. For me, this journey led to my move to Portugal, a commitment to work-life balance, and a passion for helping women rediscover themselves.

When you live authentically, life feels lighter. You stop living for approval and start living for joy. It’s the ultimate act of self-love because it requires you to honor who you truly are.

Steps to Begin Your Journey

  1. Take Time to Reflect
Carve out time each day to ask yourself: What do I truly want? Journaling can be a powerful tool for self-reflection.

  2. Let Go of "Shoulds"
Write a list of everything you feel you “should” be or do. Then, cross off the ones that don’t align with your values.

  3. Start Small, Be Brave
Take one small step that feels true to you. Maybe it’s saying no to something that drains you or saying yes to a dream you’ve put off.

Rediscovering yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When you embrace your authentic self, you give others permission to do the same. You become a light in the world, showing that it’s okay to live boldly, unapologetically, and beautifully. So, beautiful, are you ready to just BE?
